Public Support for Public Safety
The purpose of The Community Law Enforcement Foundation of Morgan Hill is to support and promote public safety through partnerships that provide resources to help the Morgan Hill Police Department (MHPD) perform at its highest level of service to the community.
We believe that public safety is the most important service that the city government provides its citizens and we see the foundation as the perfect vehicle for the community to express its support for the police department. We raise money to see that the MHPD has all of the tools and training it needs to be effective and to better serve our community.
The foundation has already raised funds that led to the purchase and training of Pax. Pax is a police dog and he represents the restoration of the police department's canine unit. The foundation continues to raise money to support the dog and his annual training as well as provide food and medical care. Other recent accomplishments include the purchase of a new generator for the MHPD CSI team, a thermal imaging camera, updated training equipment for the K-9 unit and providing funds to support the MHPD's Parent Project.
The foundation is a sustaining organization that will operate for years to come. We work closely with the MHPD's administration to align our fundraising efforts with equipment and services not currently covered by the City budget. One of the foundation's goals is to raise funds for an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) pilot whereby 5-6 patrol cars will be outfitted with the devices. Should the pilot prove successful we will continue efforts to ensure that every department vehicle contains one of these life saving devices. Other goals include Flash Cams to deter graffiti, VieView cameras for officers and funds to cover start up costs of the new Volunteers in Policing program.

Aboard the Pamala: Commercial Fishing Adventures – My family’s business
I served as a commercial fisherwoman on the Pamala, a 65-foot motor and sailboat equipped with a 10-ton hold. Our fishing operation involved nine lines, and our primary catch was albacore, with individual fish weighing anywhere between 15 and 40 pounds.
While working on the Pamala, I traveled more than 2,000 miles into the central Pacific Ocean, reaching as far as the International Date Line. My journey took me to the coordinates 49.01 degrees North, 43.00 degrees South, and 144.38 degrees West—approximately halfway to Japan.
Our expeditions started in Honolulu, Hawaii. on a course to Astoria Oregon. Over the course of my time on the Pamala, I completed three separate trips, each lasting up to one month. Not being on land for weeks at a time is a challenge in itself.
We encountered a wide range of weather conditions at sea. Sometimes, we faced winds reaching 35 knots and waves as high as 15 feet, while at other times, the ocean was completely calm. On one voyage, the Coast Guard tried to board our vessel, but the rough sea prevented them from coming aboard.
Through these trips, we managed to catch a total of 1,009 albacore, marking a significant achievement for our crew.
During my time at sea, I encountered sharks, dolphins, and even witnessed a whale following our boat. The sunsets were the most beautiful I have ever seen, but the rough waters were also the most frightening experiences of my life.

The next morning... Shawna was at the reception hall at 8am, tearing down decorations, collecting linens, boxing up items and helping us pack up everything and get it into the truck! Do wedding planners even do this? Guests raved about her personable service, professionalism and how she was so cool, no pressure, no hiccups--this is just what she does. And she made it look effortless. Shawna also officiated our wedding, helped us with vows to make it personalized and charming. If you are getting married...you need a best friend. My best friend was, without a doubt, Shawna! Weddings can be stressful, but I had the luxury of drinking mimosas and visiting with bridal party, guests, etc. because I had no worries-- nothing to stress over except the calories in the cake! If you have the opportunity to hire Shawna--do it! You will not be disappointed!! I'd give 50 stars if it would let me. She's a gem.
